Carotid ultrasound involves using ultrasound imaging to diagnose carotid artery conditions. By analyzing grayscale, Doppler, and color images, diagnoses such as stenosis, atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, carotid dissections, or carotid body tumors can be identified, aiding in treatment planning.

Course Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will:

  • Describe spectral waveform changes associated with proximal and distal stenosis noted in carotid ultrasound exams.

  • Accurately identify the cervical arteries

  • Differentiate atherosclerotic carotid disease from non-atherosclerotic carotid artery pathologies

Target Audience

  • Physicians, sonographers, and others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound.
