Temporal Artery Doppler Ultrasound
Course Overview
Learn how ultrasound plays a pivotal role in diagnosing temporal arteritis, a serious condition associated with polymyalgia rheumatica. This course offers a comprehensive overview of the anatomy and pathology of the superficial temporal artery (STA) system, including its branches and the impact of temporal arteritis. Understand the principles of ultrasound imaging for temporal artery evaluation, including key techniques for identifying vessel tortuosity, wall thickening, and the 'halo sign.' Dive into the importance of proper scanning protocols, including the use of power Doppler, grayscale imaging, and spectral analysis for accurate results. This training is ideal for sonographers, radiologists, and healthcare professionals looking to enhance their skills in using ultrasound for temporal arteritis diagnosis and management.
Course Objectives
Identify temporal artery anatomy, including the superficial artery, parietal branch, and frontal branch.
Identify sonographic pathology of temporal arteries.
Apply provocative testing to the arteries and interpret the outcome of those provocative tests in diagnosing temporal arteritis.
Target Audience
Physicians, sonographers, and others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound.
