Vasa Previa Screening: A Systematic Approach to Vessel Evaluation
0% Complete
Course Overview
This course provides a practical, evidence-based approach to screening for vasa previa using transvaginal ultrasound combined with color and pulsed-wave Doppler. Participants will learn which pregnancies warrant targeted evaluation, how to optimize Doppler settings for detecting slow-flow fetal vessels, how to distinguish fetal vessels from maternal vasculature, and how to document findings according to current clinical recommendations.
Through real-world scanning techniques, imaging examples, and reporting guidance, learners will gain confidence in performing and documenting comprehensive vasa previa assessments that improve prenatal detection and patient outcomes.

* AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ is designated for and awarded to physicians. Non-physician healthcare professionals, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and sonographers may participate in activities accredited for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™; their respective credentialing and professional organizations independently recognize such participation toward their own continuing education requirements. Organizations that accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™-accredited courses toward non-physician CE include ARDMS, CCI, and Sonography Canada.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Identify clinical scenarios and placental findings that warrant targeted screening for vasa previa.
Perform a systematic transvaginal ultrasound examination using grayscale, color Doppler, and pulsed-wave Doppler to evaluate fetal vessels near the internal cervical os.
Differentiate fetal vessels from maternal vessels by utilizing Doppler waveform analysis and fetal heart rate confirmation.
Document imaging findings accurately and formulate appropriate recommendations for maternal-fetal medicine consultation and delivery planning when vasa previa is suspected.
Target Audience
Physicians
Sonographers
Others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound.
