Course Overview

Breast elastography evaluates tissue stiffness to differentiate benign from malignant lesions using strain or shear-wave techniques. Malignant lesions appear larger, irregular, and stiffer (>80-100 kPa), while benign lesions are softer and homogeneous. Elastography improves diagnostic accuracy.

Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will:

  • Understand the principles of elastography and be familiar with the differences between strain and shear-wave elastography.

  • Recognize the benign and malignant features of breast masses evaluated with elastography.

  • Be familiar with current artifacts, pitfalls and limitations of breast elastography.

Target Audience

  • Physicians, sonographers, and others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound.
