Event Overview

In-person lectures, interactive discussions with orthopedic surgery and musculoskeletal radiology collaboration. Scientific program integrates with expedition itinerary to build comradery and enhance the learning enviroment. Description: This accredited continuing medical education (CME) activity combines orthopaedic and musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology education with a unique Antarctic expedition. It features keynote speakers and focuses on advanced topics in MSK imaging, pathology, and clinical management. The program includes lectures on crystal arthropathy, glenohumeral joint instability, bone and cartilage injuries, rotator cuff abnormalities, meniscus function, degenerative and inflammatory spinal disorders, medical malpractice, and radiology report terminology, and more.

Objectives

  1. Integrate Imaging and Surgical Perspectives: Participants will integrate advanced musculoskeletal imaging findings with orthopedic surgical strategies to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning, addressing gaps in interdisciplinary interpretation of conditions like joint instability, cartilage injuries, and tendon abnormalities.

  2. Optimize Communication and Terminology: Participants will apply standardized radiology report terminology and pathologic correlations to improve communication between radiologists and surgeons, reducing practice gaps in misinterpretation of imaging results for disorders such as crystal-induced arthropathy, spinal inflammation, and meniscal dysfunction.

  3. Evaluate Pathogenesis and Injury Patterns: Participants will evaluate the pathogenesis and imaging hallmarks of common musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions, enabling collaborative decision-making to bridge gaps in recognizing subtle abnormalities in the knee, shoulder, and vertebral column.

  4. Mitigate Risks in Clinical Practice: Participants will assess medico-legal trends and risk factors in orthopedic care, incorporating interdisciplinary insights to develop strategies that minimize malpractice exposure while optimizing patient outcomes in imaging-dependent surgical scenarios.

  5. Foster Collaborative Problem-Solving: Participants will collaborate on case-based discussions to apply joint orthopedic-radiology knowledge in real-world practice, closing gaps in team-based approaches to managing complex MSK disorders and promoting evidence-based competence in multidisciplinary settings.

Target Audience

Orthopedic Surgeons, Radiologists, Sports Medicine Physicians, and other practitioners that view and interpret musculoskeletal radiology and perform or participate in orthopedic surgery and imaging and procedures.
