Fetal Cardiac Outflow Tracts: Normal and Abnormal Anatomy

Fetal Cardiac Outflow Tracts: Normal and Abnormal Anatomy

Course Overview

This course provides an in-depth understanding of fetal cardiac outflow tract anatomy and anomalies, focusing on conditions such as Tetralogy of Fallot, Transposition of the Great Arteries, and Double-Outlet Right Ventricle. Participants will learn how to accurately assess the fetal heart using advanced ultrasound techniques like the three-vessel trachea (3VT), three-vessel view (3VV), and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) views. Emphasizing the importance of early detection, this course will cover key methods for identifying ductal-dependent lesions and other critical outflow tract defects. By completing this course, clinicians will be equipped to improve prenatal diagnosis, enhance neonatal outcomes, and optimize surgical planning for congenital heart disease (CHD).

Course Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will:

  • Develop a systematic approach to four-chamber view assessment

  • Describe some of the risk factors that would increase the risk of congenital heart disease in the fetus

  • Identify some of the cardiac lesions that can be diagnosed during evaluation of the four-chamber view

Target Audience

  • Physicians, sonographers, and others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound.
