Course Overview

This course delves into the use of the Middle Cerebral Artery Doppler Peak Systolic Velocity (MCA-PSV) as a non-invasive method for assessing fetal anemia, particularly in isoimmunized pregnancies. The MCA-PSV measurement is highly reliable and allows clinicians to detect severe anemia in fetuses early, reducing the need for invasive procedures like amniocentesis or percutaneous umbilical blood sampling.

Course Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will:

  • Describe the sonographic parameters to evaluate fetal anemia.

  • List the technique to obtain the peak systolic velocity of the middle cerebral artery and the etiology of increased velocities.

  • Apply the measurement peak systolic velocity of the middle cerebral artery to manage the fetus with suspected anemia.

Target Audience

  • Physicians, sonographers, and others who perform and/or interpret obstetrical ultrasound.

* AMA PRA Category 1 ™ credits are used by physicians and other groups like PAs and certain nurses. Category 1 credits are accepted by the ARDMS, CCI, ACCME, and Sonography Canada.
