Prenatal Diagnostic Imaging: A Focused Approach to Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation

Prenatal Diagnostic Imaging: A Focused Approach to Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation

Course Overview

This course provides a focused approach to prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation (CPAM), the most common fetal lung lesion. It covers key imaging techniques, lesion measurement, and Doppler evaluation to accurately identify and assess CPAM. Through case studies and practical examples, participants will gain confidence in diagnosis, differential considerations, and multidisciplinary management to improve fetal and neonatal outcomes.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define CCAM (CPAM) and understand its embryologic basis.

  2. Identify and differentiate macrocystic vs microcystic CCAMs via ultrasound.

  3. Classify CCAMs (Types 0–IV) and their corresponding ultrasound features.

  4. Evaluate key ultrasound indicators, including mediastinal shift, polyhydramnios, and CVR.

  5. Recognize warning signs such as hydrops fetalis and understand their prognostic implications.

  6. Apply findings to guide appropriate monitoring, referral, and perinatal management.

Target Audience

  • Physicians

  • Sonographers

  • Others who perform and/or interpret ultrasound
